Lessons & Learning
One of my favorite things to do is to research learning interventions, tools and create educational materials. (I could sit and make presentations all day long, given the chance - while listening to my audiobooks, of course.) In this area you’ll find lessons and project ideas tied to standards.
Ancient Civilizations Part 1 - Greece (A multi-lesson unit plan including both Virginia State Standards and AASL Library Standards.)
Folktales - Are They Relevant Today? A video that argues the relevancy of folktales and superheroes. The first part of the video discusses the modernizing of folktales combined with comic-style superhero themes. The second part of the video gives ideas on how to adapt folktales and superheroes into lessons or programs for children.
Ambassadors of Earth - Web-based, technology-rich instruction (incudes connections to ISTE and CCS Standards). This was written with upper elementary in mind, but this plan could easily be adapted for middle or high school students. (Please know that the infographic is interactive - so be sure to click the globe and colorful alien icons to view the items connected to the lesson like an opening hook video, a mind map, a YouTube video about citations of sources and other items associated with the lesson plan.)
Pinterest Project (group project w/ three other teammates) - Tying ELA to Common Core. (This was a collaboration for HS educators teaching about voting- we included images created in Canva with lesson ideas tying various resources and projects to CCS for some of our posts. Click on the image for three of the pins I created for the project.)
SEL - Anxiety at the Library - A short video addressing a student's anxiety about completing a project. (Less than 2 minutes.)
(For some projects we were required to tie lessons to Common Core, though I am aware that Virginia has its own standards that must be tied to curriculum.)
