Field Work - Benton Middle School
On August 19, 2021 I started working with the wonderful people at Benton Middle School. Diane Stinson, Amanda Babcock and Katie Rosolino are all amazing to work with and extremely knowledgeable. I was so lucky to have this opportunity! The students and staff at Benton were so welcoming. Many students have commented on how awesome the space is. It is so flexible with a variety of seating options, a makerspace and of course the fantastic collection of books and resources.
Though my field work is coming to a close I have posted some projects I completed during my time at Benton. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
Benton Projects
Below are a few projects that I completed during my time with Benton Middle School.
While at Benton I created a short comic video about how to sign in when a student comes to the library on a pass.
I had the amazing opportunity to collaborate with 7th Grade Language Arts team on their Figurative Language Unit. I designed a summative project for them and was able to present the project to students for four of the classes. Click the photo to go to the Wakelet that has the items connected to the project. (Items include a video, PDF of the slides for kids to refer back to, a grading rubric and lesson plan.)
The library got so many requests of books by genre that I offered to make some posters that list authors and call numbers to help encourage student browsing. The poster machine only prints one color so we are going to decorate them to help make them stand out. Click the photo to see the Canva file with more detail.

Policies & What’s Important
I stand for ethical practices, and providing access and various resources to the library community that I service. I will organize engaging programs and events that will bring people back for more. I like to search out and curate unique, diverse and global resources to help foster a love for learning, allow multiple perspectives and open the lines of discussion.
The journey I have been on through school is merely the beginning. I have many ideas about curation projects, programming, and keeping up with trends and news on search, technology and of course books! I am very interested in learning more about media literacy practices and want to explore more with diverse books, including international book resources for K-12. I am also interested in cross-genre and cross-curriculum projects.
